CryoPen® Cryotherapy

Eliminating unwanted skin blemishes

Treatment Overview

Cryotherapy is the controlled destruction of unwanted tissue by precise application of extreme cold. Targeted rapid freezing to -27°C and more will produce necrosis in all benign human tissue, making it an extremely effective method used to treat a wide range of skin conditions. These include the removal of warts and verrucas, seborrheic keratosis, skin tags, non-malignant skin growths and lesions, and skin pigmentation.

CryoPen® is a superior CryoTherapy device that can target and destroy the intended lesion with extreme precision at temperatures of 45°C. This acutely accurate placement greatly minimises the freezing effects on the healthy skin surrounding the unwanted lesion during the procedure.

The Science

The innovation of cryotherapy is the direct application of liquified N₂0 (Nitrous Oxide) under high pressure (55 bar). A fine jet of freezing gas at -89°C is emitted directly onto the abnormal skin lesion. The device destroys the tissue by freezing the intercellular fluid, forming ice shards and crystals that rupture the membrane, thereby destroying the cell.

Following treatment, the body’s natural wound healing response is triggered, immediately followed by inflammation of the area. Proliferation then takes effect shortly after this, noticed by a small wheal or scab crusting formation underneath which tissue remodelling will occur. The crust should be allowed to fall away naturally. This process involves the eventual maturation of the newly formed skin cells.

Before Your Treatment

A comprehensive consultation is conducted at the beginning of every patient’s journey. This consultation involves filling out essential paperwork, including a medical health history questionnaire, which is crucial in determining the suitability of treatment. Additionally, the consultation includes a thorough discussion to establish the patient’s treatment motivations, expectations, and desired outcomes; this helps determine the best treatment solution and an individual program that caters to each patient’s specific needs.

Booking your initial treatment appointment on the same day as the consultation may be possible in some instances. However, this will depend on the specific treatment needed. It is naturally important and advised to take some time to carefully consider our recommendations and then return at a later date for the treatment appointment.

Your Treatment

Upon arriving for your scheduled treatment appointment, your medical history will be carefully reviewed to ensure accuracy. Your practitioner will then explain the intended treatment procedure in detail to ensure it is fully understood and expected. Only after obtaining your consent to proceed will the treatment be administered. You are always welcome and encouraged to ask any questions or raise any concerns at any point during the process.
