The Science

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) possesses growth-promoting properties that accelerate the repair of aged and damaged skin. The nutrient-rich plasma is derived from a small blood sample taken from the patient by a professional phlebotomist. The sample is then spun in a centrifuge, which separates and activates the plasma. Once separated, the harvested plasma liquid is reintroduced back into the patient’s skin via the treatment method of micro-needling or injection. Booking your initial treatment appointment on the same day as the consultation may be possible in some instances. However, this will depend on the specific treatment needed. What results can I expect?

How many treatment sessions are required?

An initial treatment course of 3-5 sessions, 1 month apart, with a maintenance treatment every 3-6 months thereafter. Personalised treatment programs may vary.

Are there any pre-treatment requirements?

As with all treatments, a standard, comprehensive pre-treatment consultation is mandatory to determine treatment suitability and to discuss all relatable matters regarding the treatment in question.

In preparation for the treatment day;

Avoid anti-inflammatory pain relief medication for 24 hours before treatment.
Avoid alcohol for 24 hours before treatment
Hydrate-increase water intake
Avoid sunbeds/direct UV exposure for 1 week prior to treatment
Avoid receiving any regenerative or invasive treatments such as peels, laser resurfacing, RF, dermal fillers, anti-wrinkle injections.

How long until treatment results are visible?

This varies; however, the initial effects of a Cellenis® PRP session are generally visible from 2 weeks post-treatment. A treatment program is advised for optimal results.

How long will the results last?

After the initial 3-5 treatment sessions, patients should aim to have 1 treatment every 3-6 months (as a minimum) to maintain results. The skin is living tissue and is subject to change and ageing. This treatment should be repeated to maintain skin quality, health and condition.

Which areas can be treated?

Any area of the face or body in need of general skin rejuvenation can be treated with Cellenis® – The most commonly treated areas are the; face, under-eyes, neck, décolletge, hands, knees and scalp for hair re-growth. It is also utilised during scar restoration.

How safe is this treatment?

Complications are very rare, but if used with injection, there is a small risk of bruising.

Are there any side effects or risks associated with this treatment?

Mild tenderness, bruising, redness and swelling can be side effects present following injections.

Will I feel any pain or discomfort during my treatment?

Minor discomfort may be felt. The blood sample will be taken from the arm like a blood test. If necessary, a topical anaesthetic may be applied to manage discomfort during the procedure.

Is there any downtime following this treatment?

Downtime is minimal due to the accelerated healing properties of the PRP. Any redness following the procedure will disappear over the next few hours.

Can men also have this treatment?

Yes absolutely. Many men opt to have PRP at Clinique Allure for hair regeneration purposes.

Will I need to return for a follow-up appointment?

A follow-up appointment is not required following this treatment.
